Artwork
Art was my passion from a very young age, my ambition towards it grew as I did. I was taught most of my art techniques in school, and dove deeper into it during my last 4 years. Throughout time, I started discovering art as a world of my own and it’s still an ongoing adventure. I started my journey by looking into a subject I cared about deeply, the importance of cultural heritage. I aimed to create an exhibition that reflects the importance of balancing between cultural heritage and modernization in Oman, taking inspiration from HM Sultan Qaboos’s speech, and many artists techniques. I wanted my audience to interact with my work and leave the exhibition with a question in mind. After graduating high school, I continued my university studies abroad, and that is when I valued art even more and discovered it’s different aspects. When I was away from home I never painted, I saved it all for when I came back during my holidays. I would visit so many museums and galleries abroad, I would even travel to many countries just to see their art so I could get inspired. I learned so much through observation, I never believed that learning art should be through history, textbooks, theories, or any other academic way. That is when I decided to approach the abstract world. A form of art that doesn’t necessarily carry an obvious meaning or message, but rather allows the audience to relate to it the way they want, wether that’s just visually enjoying it or connecting their emotions with the painting. Also allowing the artist to let our their energy, emotions, and thoughts without studying the final outcome. I believe that art is for all, it has no right or wrong, and it’s not limited to periods or styles. I believe art is free, joyful, and alleviates all types of suffering (emotionally or physically). My name is Al Ghalya Mohammed Al Mahruqi, and I’m a young emerging Omani artist that aims to reach beyond her dreams with her skills, creativity , and ambition to spread pleasure to those who appreciate the arts and those who don’t through her experimental techniques.
